Simoendli

Simoendli is a digital photographer that I found on deviantart.com. I was not able to find much information on her, however, she does have quite a few pictures on the website. Her work is very sensual and delicate. She does a very good job of zooming in on objects and blurring out the background so that ones eye is focused on one exact spot. I really like the way she uses water droplets and makes them the focal point. They are very crisp and clean images with a mystical feel to them. She also has a very strong use of color and space throughout her compositions. Her use of photoshop to enhance her images is also very strong in that it is not obvious, and could pass for an actual photo with no work done to it. I really want to try and shoot like this for another project. I researched an artist last week with a similar style and I really like the soft, and minute detail that is depicted from looking at these works of art.

  1. Good. Some of this effect can be achieved by working close-up to your subject with a longer lens and wider aperture -- which will limit the depth of field. And yes, similar selective focus techniques can be achieved in photoshop in post-processing.

I cannot help but wonder if part of your attraction to this work is that you see / experience so much water everyday. Surely at practice, your associations of water are likely contextualized to competitive swimming, but I wonder if there is something aesthetic that might be worth exploring there as well? Waves, ripples, bubbles, colors? Water is something archetypal that can lend itself to all kinds of creative notions. Check out Brittny Roberts blog for a very different "take" on water (Traer Scott). And then of course Roni Horn' s "Dictionary of Water"
